Nature Journal

In the gardens my favorite one was probably the lily ponds. I really enjoyed watching the koi fish swirling in the water. They reminded me of little fading spirits in the water because the water was so dark and mucky it was hard to see through to see the fish. The only thing that you could see is the fading shape and color of the fish. This ghostly appearance reminded me the part where Gatsby is giving the tour of his house and how there seemed to be a lingering ghostliness to the house without the guest.
I found it interesting the way the fish varied in different shades of oranges, whites, and blacks. Also i thought the pond was very mysterious because there were many random splashes but there was nothing seen jumping. I just really like the fish plus, they were many dodging each other from colliding. Something that i would have loves to see where the water lilies in the water; i just saw the lily pads.
Think Paragraph: The Three Americas
According to Mr. Banks there are three kinds of the American Dream: the Fountain of Youth, El Dorado, and City on a Hill. The Fountain of Youth relates more to that of starting a new life; a fresh new beginning; a new opportunity: youth. The El Dorado dream relates to more of the money aspect part of the American Dream. the City on the Hill dream is mostly about the pastoral dream; the perfect new life where life there is uncorrupted and entering a pure place. The one that relates to the Great Gatsby the most is the Fountain of Youth aspect of the American Dream because Gatsby makes up a new life for himself starting with a new identity and lives that life. It could also relate to the El Dorado dream because the reason he started a new life was to have more money to live a better life to finally be with his one true love Daisy. In other books that the Fountain of youth relates to is the Narrative of Frederick Douglas because of his struggle to become free and start a new life and Huck Finn because of Jim’s journey to a new beginning as well. For my photoetry project the aspect of the American dream that relates to it the most is that of the Fountain of Youth and the El Dorado. It relates to the Fountain of Youth because the people in my pictures have gone through so much to start a new life in a country that was foreign to them and the way they band together to help each other along the way. It also relates to the El Dorado aspect because many, early in the days, they would want to come here thinking that they would make a lot of easy money and become rich, and little did they know that it was not entirely true.

Describe:
The police officer is very serious and is caught in the middle of saying something. The stick in his hand is called a baton. Another hand in the photograph and it is holding on to the wrist of the police officer. There is a black woman confronting the police officer. The woman is leaning and drenched in water. She is not scared and has a determined strong face. The officer has a mocking look on his face. Both are in the park, in the background you can see two tall trees as well as shape that look like people.
Asking:
Why did the photographer cut off the other officer from the picture? (The other officer holding back the officer in the picture)
Why do you feel such hatred at the look of this photograph? What makes the viewer feel the animosity?
Connection:
The way the people are arguing in this photo reminds me of the way people argue right before a big fight. The way there is always a third person holding someone back, try to prevent that fight.
Connection to another piece:
The hatred of this photo reminds me of another photograph in the gallery. The photograph with Elizabeth and the group of students, officers, and adults were following her and screaming things at her, Elizabeth from the little rock nine. The way that one girl in the crowd, who was probably the same age as Elizabeth, is screaming vulgar things a
